On January 26, 2010, the Chief Justice of the Federated States of Micronesia, His Hon. Andon L. Amaraich was called to his eternal rest in Honolulu, Hawaii. The shocking news astonished not only the government and people of the FSM, but also the government and people of the People's Republic of China.

H.E. YANG Jiechi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China sent his condolence message on January 28 to Hon. Lorin S. Robert, Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the FSM. In his message, he speaks highly of His Hon. Andon L. Amaraich, stating that:" He was always concerned about and supported the development of the China-FSM relations. We deeply cherish the memories of him and his positive contributions to the development of the China-FSM relations." On the same day, H.E. WANG Shengjun, Chief Justice & President of the Supreme People's Court of the People's Republic of China, also sent his condolence letter to the FSM Supreme Court and Hon. Amaraich's family.

The late Hon. Andon L. Amaraich was an old friend of China. In September, 1989, when he was the Secretary of the Department of External Affairs of the FSM, representing the government of the FSM, he signed the Diplomatic Joint Communique with the representative of the Chinese Government. He had committed himself to the friendly relations between China and the FSM. His untimely passing away meant a great loss to the Chinese Government and its people.

H.E. Ambassador ZHANG Weidong also sent his condolence letter to the Department of Foreign Affairs, Supreme Court of the FSM and the bereaved family, expressing his profound condolences and solicitude on their great loss. The Embassy of the People's Republic of China wish to convey its deepest sympathies and condolences to the government and people of the FSM, and express its sincere commitments to work together with the FSM side to inherit the goodwills of His Hon. Andon L. Amaraich to further enhance the friendship between China and the FSM.
